Hello hello.
I'm posting here and y'all know what that means, I'm done with The Walking Dead! Well, the latest airing episode is 11 of season 3, now it'll be a every Monday weekly episode to watch until Season 3 ends and then everyone patiently waits for Season 4 (Google says they're making a season 4).
Today is Day 2 of Method X. Its time I reveal what this method is all about. The proper term to call it is Intermittent Fasting, where I'll be fasting daily, nothing that's got calories, for 16 hours and have a feeding period of 8 hours. In this method, the author didn't really believe in moderate to intense cardio, and his recommendations for cardio if you want is just.. walking. Therefore I've taken off all morning cardios, and only have my cardio after gym - twice a week. This is definitely a lazy way of cutting/body recompositioning.
Is it effective? According to reviews, testimonials and the author's clients, yes it worked for many. It may or may not work for me, it actually depends on the individual's body and mental perspective. Intermittent Fasting actually provides a very flexible method of cutting, even the author says it himself. The author makes it very versatile to fit his clients different schedule be it for those who workout early in the morning or late in the evening. My fasting period is around 8pm - 12pm, 16 hours and since I usually gym in the morning, I'll have to do fasted training. The author recommends 10g of Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA, a form of supplement) before training. I don't have that, I'll probably get that after my Whey Protein supplements end. He writes that you should be flexible with your schedule, if you don't have BCAAs, then use Whey Protein (Whey protein contains BCAA too but its not concentrated BCAA). The cons of using whey protein is that for 10g of BCCA, you'll also get 260 calories rather than a mere 10-20 calories for the pure BCAA. Yesterday I trained with 260 calories of Whey Protein as a pre-workout meal. My strength is definitely still there. I'm considering to lower my BCAAs and Calories to 130 calories for 5g of BCAA on Thursday. If it works, I might even consider no pre-workout meal at all, of course subjected to the intensity my body can take. This is something that many professional athletes would be against. Cmon, the usual rulebook is that you should have something to eat before training, but this method is crazy, I'm crazy! Life's a bitch but I'm friends with her sister~
You might think, 16 hours of fasting, isn't it crazily tough to do? I did manage to play around with the system for an easier way out. You see.. from 12pm - 8pm I eat, and I sleep at 11pm comfortable. Wake up at 9.30am (Oops I'm exposing myself for pigging out) and just use computer/phone for the next few hours til 12pm where I can eat again. So far, the only time I get real hungry is from 1130am to 12pm, tank for 30minutes no problem :D
Fasting no problem, means no problem right? Hah! I was wrong too. The problem lies within the 8h feeding period. The rule of thumb for calories a day is 20% on workout days and -20% for rest days. My calories on rest days is 1715 calories. I've to get 1715 calories in 8 hours (Its 16/8 ratio only and I don't wanna even imagine 20/4). The author personally prefers 3 meals in 8 hours to get his calories in. I don't think in 3 meals I can make it to 1715 calories so I make it 4 meals instead. I've to eat a lot every 2h, I'm always full, its a far cry from the past 6-8 meals a day where your stomach shouldn't be hungry nor full. In Intermittent Fasting, its either you're super full or you're super hungry haha.
Yesterday, I encountered a tiny problem after the last meal. After my dinner, I realized I haven't hit my target of carbs, I had to forcefully push two pieces of bread down my mouth (Probably still not enough carbs but I didn't want to force myself too much). My protein intake has constantly been high.
This method is currently great for crazy athletes. They said that its even the new 'in' thing for cutting phases. However, this method is mostly for people who trains and for those who don't, there's another form of intermittent fasting (there's a lot of variety). I would like to have a test subject who just lives a normal lifestyle (like the normal asian lifestyle, study, eat, play games, go out for a round or two of cycling, eat merry around the country) that just do the 16/8 thing for this holiday to see how their body reacts. It'll be interesting.
And lastly, I would like to thank Sherhong for opening up my mind to Intermittent Fasting back then. I wouldn't have even peered into this method if not for her. She make me took another look at this method, although back then we followed the wrong variation of Intermittent Fasting and she felt that this wasn't her style. I wouldn't say its my style either, I just started, I think its manageable, its not that hard and I'll probably get used to it soon. Its even a time and money saver too!
Oh and something else. I totally have nothing to do with my life lol. My Mum told me that from Friday onwards, I'll have to do the grocery shopping and cooking while she supervise. I hear already am like.. "Wow, just what I wanted". But then her next words were "I'm going for an operation so I can't do all these". I said okay. I didn't ask about anything else. I didn't want to know, but a few years back I already knew that she had a cervix problem or something like that. I just want to act as if that I'm going to be independent and nothing has happened. That's what I always do anyway.
